The 2026 Lexus ES Just Made the Electric Version Its Most Affordable Model

The 2026 Lexus ES Just Made the Electric Version Its Most Affordable Model

No other luxury automaker has done this. That matters more than the spec sheet.

Lexus dropped final pricing on the all-new 2026 ES on March 25, and the number everyone stopped on was $48,795. That is the starting price for the ES 350e, the fully electric version. It is also the cheapest model in the entire ES lineup, undercutting the hybrid that arrives two months later by over two thousand dollars. Electric variants have almost always cost more than their gas counterparts, but Lexus just flipped the script entirely, and that shift is worth paying attention to.

The ES 350e and ES 500e electric models go on sale in April. The ES 350h hybrid follows in June. That sequencing is not accidental.

The number that changes the conversation

Every price includes a $1,295 delivery fee, and the figure worth burning into your memory is at the bottom: the electric is cheaper than the hybrid. That hasn't happened before in the luxury segment, at least not from a brand with Lexus's weight behind it.

Here is how the lineup shakes out. The ES 350e Premium opens at $48,795. The ES 500e Premium AWD follows at $51,795. The hybrid ES 350h, arriving in June, starts at $50,995. The ES 350e Luxury tops at $57,195, and the ES 500e Luxury caps the range at $60,195.

The "EVs cost more" argument has been the loudest objection in luxury showrooms for years, and Lexus just walked up to it and pulled the rug out. A buyer cross-shopping the ES against a BMW i5 or a Mercedes EQE no longer has a price-premium excuse. The electric option comes in under $49,000, which is less than the hybrid option that arrives two months later. If that does not shift the conversation in the luxury sedan segment, nothing will. And frankly, if you need more convincing than that, you were probably never buying the EV anyway.

Two electric models, one clear winner for most buyers

The ES lineup offers two fully electric configurations, and they are aimed at noticeably different people.

The ES 350e runs a single 221-horsepower front motor off a 74.7-kWh battery. EPA range comes in at 307 miles on 19-inch wheels, comfortably above most competitors in the segment. The 0-to-60 time of 7.4 seconds is unhurried, but that is exactly what ES buyers have always wanted: a composed, relaxed drive, not a stoplight sprint. This one is for the person who wants a premium daily driver, plugs in at home every night, and never thinks about range again.

The ES 500e adds a second 118-horsepower motor on the rear axle through Toyota's DIRECT4 all-wheel-drive system, pushing combined output to 338 horsepower and cutting the 0-60 time to 5.1 seconds. Range drops to 276 miles with AWD, which remains genuinely competitive. If you want grip on winter mornings and a bit more urgency when the freeway opens up, this is your model.

Both variants charge at up to 11 kW on Level 2, taking roughly 7 hours from a home setup. DC fast charging brings the battery from 10 to 80 percent in about 28 minutes. Both come with the North American Charging Standard port, so Supercharger access is native, no adapter gymnastics required.

A much bigger car than you remember

The 2026 ES isn't a refresh of what came before. Lexus rebuilt it from the ground up, and the numbers show it. The new car is 6.5 inches longer, 2.2 inches wider, and 4.5 inches taller than the outgoing model, with a wheelbase that grew by 3.1 inches. That translates directly into rear-seat space that Lexus is openly comparing to the LS, their flagship. That is a bold comparison, and from early reviews, it holds up.

The optional Executive Package makes the LS comparison feel like less of a reach. Power-adjustable heated and ventilated rear seats with massage, a passenger-side ottoman, and a knee-level radiant heater are not features you typically find in a car at this price point. They are features you find in cars costing $30,000 to $50,000 more.

For the driver, a 14-inch Lexus Interface touchscreen, 12.3-inch digital instrument display, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and wireless charging come standard across every trim. Luxury models step up to a 1,800-watt Mark Levinson audio system with LED-backlit bamboo door trim and soft-close doors. The exterior design pulls from the LF-ZC concept, trading the traditional spindle grille for a smooth closed fascia with a 0.25 drag coefficient. It looks considerably more mature than the car it replaces.

The sedan comeback nobody predicted

For the past five years, the midsize luxury sedan was on the obituary list. SUVs swallowed the segment. BMW rethought the 5 Series. Sedans started vanishing from configurators. Lexus held the ES steady while the rest of the market sprinted toward crossovers, and now they have come back with a car that is bigger, more technologically advanced, and arriving first in electric form.

The fact that the EV leads the lineup, before the hybrid, before any gas option, says something clear about where Lexus believes this market is actually headed. The buyers who stayed loyal to luxury sedans were not resistant to electrification. They were waiting for a product that felt genuinely premium and was priced as if the manufacturer wanted to sell it, not just check a compliance box. The 2026 ES is that product.

Lexus is rolling it out nationally in April, not as a limited coastal launch but as a full availability. That kind of confidence is earned by a product team that knows what they have built.

Who the competition actually is

At $48,795, the ES 350e goes up against the BMW i5 eDrive40, the Mercedes EQE 350, and the Genesis Electrified G80. Against that field, Lexus arrives with more range than most, a dealer network already in your town, Toyota's battery engineering behind the architecture, and a reliability reputation that its German competitors have been chasing in J.D. Power surveys for a decade.

The hybrid version coming in June covers front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive configurations from $50,995. That gives the 2026 ES three distinct powertrain options within a single calendar year across a $48,795 to $60,195 range. For a buyer who has been watching the luxury EV segment mature and waiting for the right combination of range, brand trust, feature content, and price, the wait is over.
